Chrysoberyl
The name comes from the Greek 'chrysos' - gold and 'beryllos' - beryl, it was used in ancient times as gold colored beryl.
Although the name suggests otherwise, this gem is not related to the beryl family. Chrysoberyl and beryl are 2 completely different gems
It has 2 highly prized varieties for their optical qualities, the cymophane (cat's eye) and the alexandrite.
